From My Stack of Magazines: November

I'm so far behind on my blogging, I usually like to post my favorites from my stack of magazines during the same month as the issue, but that didn't work out this November with all of the Thanksgiving craziness. So here they are. Enjoy.

Rooms with a "moody" color palette of gray, purple, blue tend to be dark spaces, but this Manhattan apartment is filled with light and glimmering surfaces.

I thought this was a great idea; using a cake stand to hold mail. I mean really, how often do you use a cake stand as a cake stand anyway?

House Beautiful's November Kitchen of the Month is full of well used copper pots and pans and distressed natural materials that give it warmth and old-world charm. I especially like the French limestone mantel and Victorian-style table.

The rest of this house is too over the top country for my taste, but the bathroom is classic and bright.

This home has a kitchen inspired by cathedral, but its the antiqued mirrors on the built-in closet doors in the master bedroom that make my jaw drop. I think the mirrors add some tarnish and character to an otherwise crisp white room.

I adore these dreamy sky themed wallpapers in the November issue of House Beautiful. The photo from Decor8 also shows a star patterned wallpaper, but in this room it's used on the ceiling rather than the walls. I think either of the pink and gold wallpapers (Cloud+Star by Stark Wallcovering and Galaxie by Rose Cumming By Dessin Fournir) would look so whimsical on the ceiling of a little girl's nursery.

These are photos from Real Simple are table setting for Thanksgiving which has obviously come and gone, but I think they'd work year round since nothing about them screams "Turkey Day".

With Christmas coming up, you may want to stock up on some of these stylish thank you notes. There are so many other great options if you click on the link to the website, but the ones below are my favorites.

This has got to be the sleekest light switch I've ever seen, but $61!?!

Black lace popped up a lot in Marie Claire this month.

In Martha Stewart Living there are great ideas and how-to
-instructions for glitter painting anything from a picture of your pet to your Christmas cards. On the Martha Stewart website you can find a variety of templates or upload your own photos to create a template. I was shocked at how detailed these glitter "paintings" can be.

Martha Stewart Living also has instructions for making pearlescent painted napkins, fabric pumpkins, hand-bleached place mats, and a sweetgum-fruit wreath. I'm not a big fan of the typical harvest colors like orange and brown, so I loved the purple and silver color combination. Also, the fabric pumpkins reminded me of the velvet pumpkins sold by Hot Skwash.
