Progress Report on Wallpaper Removal

We've removed all of the wallpaper in the kitchen and dining area, washed the walls with TSP followed by a rinse. Now my husband is working on patching the walls. We'll have to wait for it to dry overnight, and then we can sand. I can't believe that we moved into this house just a week ago today. On a related note, my husband woke up this morning to find me stripping wallpaper off of our bedroom walls. He thinks I'm crazy, but I'm just excited to get rid of all of the old wallpaper and replacing it with fresh paint.

Here are the "Before" photos of the kitchen and dining area:

These are the photos that I took today of our progress so far:

Look-a-Likes for Less: Mirrored Cubes

I'm a big fan of mirrored furniture. It reflects light, adds glam, and works with many different styles of decor. These cubes from Horchow are great, but Wisteria sells similar mirrored cubes for much less. The mirrors on the cube from Wisteria don't have beveled edges like the cube from Horchow, but both cubes measure 20"x20".

John-Richard Mirrored Cube $799 at Horchow.

Mirrored Cube Table $249 at Wisteria.

Ouch!

My feet haven't hurt this bad since I was a waitress during my college years. I was up on my feet all yesterday getting the house ready to move into. It's my grandpa's house, but he moved into a senior apartment months ago and was nice enough to offer to let us stay in his house. I'll post photos soon. I don't think there's a room in the house that doesn't need something repainted, repaired, or replaced. But at the end of the day yesterday it was nice to feel like I'd accomplished a lot, and, luckily, my family has been so helpful cleaning out the house and babysitting Peanut so I can clean. We pick up the Uhaul in a few hours. I can't wait to finally be moved into the house and out of this apartment. Woo-hoo!

Internet Issues & Upcoming Move

Recently I've been having Internet issues, but I just got a new modem today so I'll start posting again soon. We're moving into a house this week so I should have a lot of frightening "Before" photos to share in the weeks to come. First thing on my to do list; REMOVE 80s WALLPAPER!

From My Stack of Magazines: May

What a great magazine month, everything from pretty dresses and pizza to too cute play date cards for mom. I also love the photos of Drew Barrymore in Elle. Those ethereal dresses coupled with the photos being taken under water makes me think of tranquil watercolor paintings. Elle also had a great section on fashion fit for a picnic; I like the new spin on retro fashions though the ants kind of give me the creepy crawlies just looking at them. I love the look of new furnishings mixed with antiques, but it's not always the easiest look to pull off. However, I think that the pairing of the ornate traditional french headboard with the contemporary canopy bed frame shown in Elle Decor turned out beautifully.
